Wondering Why India Ranks As A ‘Flawed Democracy’? Here Are 22 Possible Reasons

What Leads To The Fall Of Democracies?    Recently, the Democracy Index Report was released by the EIU and a countrywide debate started, on the fall of India by 10 odd places i.e from 51 to 41; citing the reason as “Erosion Of Civil Liberties”. The facts tell us numbers and the numbers come from observation. The fallen democracy index is a gentle reminder that the world is watching us. It will be suitable to commence my article by quoting Dr. Ambedkar. “An ideal society should be mobile, should be full of channels for conveying a change taking place in one part to other parts. In an ideal society, there should be many interests consciously communicated and shared. There should be varied and free points of contact with other modes of association. In other words, there should be social endosmosis. This is a fraternity, which is only another name for democracy. Democracy is not merely a form of Government. It is primarily a mode of associated living, of conjoint communi

A Letter To “Partition” From Those Who Left Their Homes

Dear Partition,                             On 3rd June 1947, you asked us ” to be or not to be”, “to stay or not to stay”. That morning , the sun forgot to rise .It shivered the humanity with its wrath. We tried harder to carry our belongings with us, but what about the time we spent on our motherland? We had to left it in the bloodshed with sorrowful hearts.                      We can’t express our feelings we were crossing the line to enter into the “parted land”  looking past our home. The whole land which was wholly ours was chopped into the two. Prey tell us ,what was our mistake? Was it a mistake to carry the religious tag with us ,from which you identified us? And even today you’re identifying us from that “same” tag.                   Please don’t repeat yourself. Now the land is not in a position to get chopped again. Please pardon the land for all its sins ,for all misdeeds of her. The nightmares of you ” the partition” still hover around us, they are still real for

So here I am, eager to share some information about Article 14 and the basic structure of the Indian Constitution along with one famous judgement of the Supreme Court on the Fundamental Rights. Fundamental Rights along with the Directive Principles Of State Policy were adopted by the constitution makers to safeguard the individual liberty and to ensure political, social and economic justice to every member of the society respectively. Fundamental Rights are not absolute and they have limitations under certain circumstances like an Emergency but the individual /legal entity /company etc. can challenge the state in court under ordinary circumstances so that the subservient legislature should not serve as a handmaid to the executive in committing inroads upon the individual liberty. The Direct
