This post is a part of  #JaatiNahiAdhikaar , a campaign by Youth Ki Awaaz  The constitution-makers of India addressed the historical oppression of the oppressed communities due to the caste system by adopting various welfare policies. The motto of these policies was to make India a social democracy where everyone will be treated equally irrespective of the caste they belonged to. Recently, the central government launched an app called “Swachhata Abhiyan” developed to Identify and Geotag the data of Insanitary Latrines and Manual Scavengers.  The government is also planning to procure machines like  ‘Bandicoot’  for cleaning the manholes. This post is a part of  #JaatiNahiAdhikaar , a campaign by Youth Ki Awaaz  Last year, the Ministry of Education shared data in the Parliament which  showed  that in the last five years (2014-2019), a total 7,248 students have dropped out from the IITs. The Ministry sighted better placements opportunities as the reason for drop out. But there is another side of the story. The percentage of SC/ST and OBC students in the  drop out  is 47.58%. 24% of the dropouts belonged to OBC category, 15% constituted SC and 8% constituted ST category in the case of IITs. The dropout rate at IIMs is even higher than IIT’s. The SC, ST and OBC together constitute a total of  62 % of the drop-out students at IIMs. The highest number of dropouts were from IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIM Indore and IIM Kashipur. This ‘New India’ isn’t devoid of caste-based discrimination as much as we’d like to believe otherwise. The official definition of “manual scavenger” is very broad and specific but in the short term, a manual scavenger is a person who handles and cleans human excreta. This activity is carried out in unsafe conditions at most of the places and many sanitation workers  die every year  due to contracting deadly diseases. To address this health issue, the government has   announced  the inclusion of all MS in the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana – Ayushman Bharat .
